The Rear Keeps The Front Alive

Poland turns the Baltic shield into a supply problem. Fighters and batteries in the north depend on fuel, munitions, roads, rail and repair capacity farther back. That makes the Suwałki corridor and Polish air defence part of the Baltic system, not a neighbouring file.

Warsaw’s East Shield aims to slow an attack and buy time, but Politico’s reporting from the frontier shows uneven work on the ground. Poland’s procurement record is more concrete. Sweden changes the map more cleanly. Since 7 March 2024, Swedish territory and airspace have been inside NATO planning, Gotland sits inside the alliance’s Baltic defence map rather than beside it.
