Austria’s four transfers meet Italy’s twelve refusals
Austria has completed the first confirmed transfers under the EU’s new asylum rules, sending four cooperative applicants to Italy on public transport. The modest breakthrough exposes the Pact’s larger enforcement problem: Italy rejected all 12 earlier requests from eight member states, and Brussels must now decide whether continued resistance will carry consequences.
Two bases, only one host chose

Brussels wants fiscal evidence after political negotiations pushed projected 2027 payroll costs from 8 billion lei toward as much as 16 billion, while coalition divisions and resistance from health and education workers threaten the law’s passage.
Romania’s 60% debt lock bites
