ASML’s longer mask targets 40% speed gain
ASML and TSMC want larger photomasks to restore the full chip field lost under High-NA optics, potentially replacing two stitched exposures with one. ASML forecasts roughly 40% higher throughput on qualifying layers, but the format remains a roadmap: pilot-line readiness is targeted for 2031 and production systems from 2033.

Mistral’s €3 billion bet lacks an address
Europe’s leading AI contender is now valued above €21 billion and plans to double its computing capacity within five years. But Mistral has not disclosed how much fresh capital it receives, where its data centres will be built or whether customer commitments can keep costly servers busy.

DeepMind maps nine billion DNA swaps
AlphaGenome Atlas gives researchers precomputed predictions for every possible single-letter substitution in the human reference genome, with tissue-specific detail across gene activity, RNA splicing and other molecular effects. The one-petabyte database could accelerate rare-disease research by prioritising laboratory targets, but its rankings remain hypotheses—not diagnoses—and still require independent biological and clinical validation.

Pancreatic cancer pill nearly doubles survival
Daraxonrasib extended median survival to 13.2 months from 6.7 months in a phase III trial of previously treated metastatic pancreatic cancer. The FDA has approved the first-in-class targeted therapy for a broader patient group, but European access remains distant as the EMA conducts an early review without a full application or timetable.

Cyprus’s €3 Billion Cable Has No Backstop
The Great Sea Interconnector could end Cyprus’s isolation from Europe’s power grid, but its provisional cost has climbed from €1.9 billion to about €3 billion. With the funding studies unfinished and no public agreement assigning overruns, Cyprus is withholding a proposed €100 million investment until the EIB, regulators and project owners establish who ultimately carries the risk.
