Germany funds Ukraine’s drones without delivery dates
Berlin has assigned about €1 billion already approved in its budget to weapons, drones and satellite technology, while Kyiv says about €350 million will support power-grid repairs before winter. The larger business deals announced during Merz’s Kyiv visit include many statements of intent. Germany has yet to say how many interceptor drones Ukraine will receive or when.

Kyiv bridge strikes halt cross-river metro
Repeated strikes have cut Kyiv’s capacity to cross the Dnipro without bringing down a bridge. The Southern Bridge is closed to trains and cars, while damage to the Northern Bridge has disrupted road and trolleybus routes. Metro officials say trains are ready to return, but a published engineering assessment and a reopening date are still missing.

Iran’s seven undisclosed terms keep Hormuz shut
Ships remain largely absent from the Strait of Hormuz as Iran says it will reopen only after Washington meets seven conditions it has not published. The talks are stuck over who moves first. Even an agreement would leave shipowners waiting for safe passage and insurance cover, while European gas buyers continue to miss Qatari cargoes.

Hormuz tanker hit amid costly crossings
A tanker’s master reported an unknown projectile striking the ship’s engine room in the Strait of Hormuz. The crew were reported safe, but the warning does not say whether the vessel stopped or its cargo was delayed. The hit comes as ship traffic has fallen sharply and war-risk insurance makes the remaining crossings far more expensive.

Bosnia’s presidency leads cannot unlock EU talks
Bosnia’s path to formal EU accession talks runs through a government that has yet to be formed. Preliminary election counts put Denis Bećirović, Darijana Filipović and Željka Cvijanović ahead for the three-member presidency, but no state parliament seat count is available. The parties negotiating the next cabinet must also agree on reforms that have stalled EU talks and funding.

France’s pension reprieve needs a price tag
France’s draft 2027 budget would save about €5.5 billion from pension measures, chiefly by raising many payments more slowly than prices. Laurent Wauquiez says his party can spare retirees through €20 billion in other cuts, but those figures are unverified and he also wants to scrap tax rises. Parliament must decide who pays as debate begins on 13 October.

EU’s 2027 bag rule keeps suitcase fees
From 23 October 2027, passengers on flights covered by EU rules will be entitled to bring one small bag or backpack aboard for free. Booking sites must show a fare that includes a cabin suitcase from the start, making its cost easier to compare. Airlines can still charge for that suitcase, and the rules do not cover earlier trips.

Italy’s pension and interest bills rise €21.54bn
Italy’s fiscal plan projects €21.54 billion more in pension spending and debt interest next year, before the government chooses any new budget measures. That leaves less room for tax cuts and family support. A separate request for roughly €14 billion in annual borrowing is tied to energy and defence spending; Parliament votes on it on 13 October.
