US diesel keeps flowing; G7 barrels unclear

Europe’s diesel supply route remains open after Donald Trump dropped his export-ban threat on 2 October. The G7 also pledged to release up to 100 million barrels of oil and fuel, but did not say how much would be diesel or how many barrels would add to existing commitments. That leaves the deal’s effect on prices hard to measure.

Italy’s interest bill climbs €30 billion

Italy expects annual debt interest to reach €117.2 billion by 2029, even as debt falls relative to the economy. The forecast in its new fiscal plan leaves less room for the 2027 budget as older bonds are refinanced at higher rates. Parliament votes on 13 October on roughly €29 billion in extra borrowing, but the published account does not say whether the interest forecast includes it.

G7’s 100 million barrel plan leaves diesel unclear

Europe needs diesel, but the G7 has not said how much its new four-month plan will put on the market. The IEA says about 325 million barrels have been released from emergency stocks since March. It remains unclear how much of the G7 plan overlaps with earlier pledges, or how much fuel offered from reserves has reached buyers.

Five Russian weapons hit unshielded Moldova

Moldova tracked three missiles and two drones into its airspace on 3 October, but officials reported no interception. A blast near Crocmaz caused a fire and damaged farm windows; nobody was hurt. The defence minister plans to buy interceptors, leaving the country to protect its skies without a NATO guarantee or a date for a working shield.

Narva supplies EV magnets; metal origins unknown

A customer has approved magnets from Neo Performance Materials’ Estonian plant for electric-vehicle motors, turning Narva into a commercial supplier. The buyer now has another approved source, but Neo has disclosed neither shipment volumes nor where the magnets’ metal was mined and refined. The deliveries establish a European manufacturing step; their effect on dependence on China cannot yet be measured.

Russia warns foreigners; Prague stays in Kyiv

Foreign governments must decide whether their diplomats can remain in Kyiv as Russian strikes disrupt the city’s crossings. Moscow’s 3 October warning repeats an earlier call for foreigners to leave Ukraine and promises more strikes. Drones have damaged two bridges this week, but the Czech government says its embassy staff will stay. Other missions have announced no new decision.

Kulbergs leads at 35.6%, coalition unclear

A joint exit poll puts Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs’s United List far ahead in Latvia’s election, but no official seat count was available hours after polls closed. Coalition options hinge partly on whether the Greens and Farmers, polled at 3.7%, clear the 5% threshold. The survey also missed more than 169,600 early voters.

Spain’s renters march after Congress vote

Tenants marched in more than 50 Spanish towns and cities a day after Congress rejected two housing decrees, ending brief protections for renters. Organisers are pressing for much deeper rent cuts and raising the prospect of a general strike. Sánchez still needs the votes of Junts, which opposed even the narrower measures that failed.

Ukraine’s refinery pledge meets Europe’s diesel squeeze

Zelenskyy says Ukraine will intensify strikes on Russian refineries in response to attacks on its power grid. Lost Russian diesel could send buyers toward cargoes Europe also needs, but no European price rise has been tied to the drones. Russia’s own export curbs complicate the picture, and the European Commission says supply remains stable.

France’s €10bn company bill meets a €20bn claim

France’s government and its main employers’ federation put the 2027 budget’s cost to companies at about €10 billion and nearly €20 billion respectively. A corporate surcharge will raise €5 billion even as its rates fall, while a narrower payroll discount will increase costs for affected employers. Neither side has published the breakdown needed to compare its figure before MPs begin debating the budget on 13 October.
